RUNNING TRACK POLTRACK SPRAY-COAT

APPLICATION TIPS


For all flooring types, we are talking about an ideal application temperature of 20-25ºC, on decent substrates. Deviations from these admissions might vary the consumptions/times/sequence of layers/preparation work and the final result in general.

 



POLAPLAST P10

Application temperature:
5 to 35º C

Working temperature of applied material:
-30 to 60º C

Tools of application:
brush or spray

Consumption (20-25º C):
150 gr/m on asphalt surfaces or smooth, power-trowel surfaces in two layers

Time between layers:

2-3 hours

Covering of POLAPLAST P10:
in 12-24 hours or next day, in any case within 24 hours.

 

POLAPLAST P13+RECYCLED RUBBER 858 (base coat)

Application temperature:
15 to 30º C

Working temperature of applied material:

-30 to 60º C

Tools of application:
paving machine (finisher) or hand laying by straightedge and flat trowel (not recommended)

Consumption (20-25º C):
1.08kg/m or POLAPLAST P13 + 6.1kg/m of RECYCLED RUBBER 858 in one layer

Covering or the base coat:
within 36-48 hours
 

POLAPLAST P12+EPDM 856 (top layer)

Application temperature:
15 to 30º C

Working temperature of applied material:
-30 to 60º C

Tools of application:
spraying machine, in two layers (second layer after 9-12 hours from the first)

Consumption (20-25º C):

1.2kg/m or POLAPLAST P12 + 1.2kg/m of EPDM 856 on asphalt surfaces in two layers

*** An optional additional layer of POLAPLAST P10 with up to 100gr/m could be used between the base coat after drying and the top layer, which should be laid within 24 hours after the POLPLAST additional layer id applied.
 

APPLICATION METHOD  
Applied on dry surfaces, free of materials that might prevent bonding e.g. dust, loose particles etc (in case of asphalt or concrete). The success in the application depends on the right preparation of the underlay and use of the material.
 

  • Good, dry cleaning of the surface from dust and residues.
  • Priming of the surface with POLAPLAST P10 applied by airless spray equipment or brush. The BASE COAT OF POLTRACK SYSTEM should be constructed while POLAPLAST P10 is still sticky (wet in wet procedure). Curing takes place at ambient temperature by evaporation of the solvent and reaction with atmospheric moisture. High temperatures and moisture will shorten the cure time. Opened drums should be used up quickly.
  • The BASE COAT OF POLTRACK SYSTEM should be constructed within 24 hours of primer application. An optional additional layer of POLAPLAST P10 follows after drying of the base coat
  • Good mixing of the POLAPLAST P13 and the RECYCLED RUBBER 858 (see mixing ratio below). Mixing should be performed using a low revolution mixer (300-600 rpm) for 1-2 min. Stirring of the mixture should be performed thoroughly near the sides and bottom of the container in order to achieve homogeneity.
  • Following, the mixture is poured on the surface and spread on the thickness 11 to 12mm using a suitable paving machine or a hand straightedge. If the application will be done with hand straightedge then small irregularities in the surface may be removed by rolling the surface using a metallic cylinder.
  • The temperature should not fall below 10 oC during curing of POLAPLAST P13.
  • Curing of POLAPLAST P13 takes place at ambient temperature by reaction with atmospheric moisture. High temperatures and moisture will shorten the cure time of the POLAPLAST P13.
  • The surface can be walked on after 12 18 hours at 20 oC.
  • After the surface is fully cured (depending on the temperature and humidity, the curing of the BASE COAT OF POLTRACK will take 12-48hours), follows the application of the final TOP SPRAY COATING OF THE POLTRACK SYSTEM.
  • Transportation and prolonged storage of spray coatings containing more than one pigment (e.g. beige or grey) can lead to separation of pigments. To obtain a uniform color, the spray coatings should be mixed well prior to application, in order to ensure an even color. The mixing must be done thoroughly until all the EPDM granules are coated. The mixing time with an agreed mixer will last from 3 to 5 minutes. The right spray viscosity depends on the spray equipment. Additionall solvent amount (Athylacetate 98/100, Butylacetate) can be added.
  • The EPDM granules must be dry and inspected for correct granule size.
  • The TOP SPRAY COATING OF THE POLTRACK SYSTEM is applied it two cross hatch layers. The EPDM granules and the POLAPLAST P12 are mixed and applied with a suitable spraying machine. If a lower spray viscosity is desired, the mixture can be thinned with solvent. The curing time of the TOP SPRAY COATING OF THE POLTRACK SYSTEM is 9-12 hours. After this time, the second layer can be applied.
  • The second layer has to be applied cross hatch, i.e. preprendicular to the first layer to insure a good coverage.
  • Curing takes place at ambient temperature by reaction with atmospheric moisture. Higher temperatures and moisture will shorten the cure time as well as the use of accelerators.
  • After the second layer has cured (depending on conditions, this will usually take 9-12 hours at 20 oC), it can be walked on. After 3-5 days, the TOP SPRAY COATING OF THE POLTRACK SYSTEM is fully cured and can be put into service, after proper line marking is made

 



CONSUMPTION Primer:

Polaplast P10:
150-200gr/m2

Base coat:
mixture of 1.08kg/m2 POLAPLAST P13 plus 6.1kg/m2 RECYCLED RUBBER 858 1-4mm thickness: 7,18kg/m2 for 11 to 12mm thickness.

Top spray coating:
mixture of 1.2 kg/m2 POLAPLAST P12 plus 1.2kg/m2 EPDM 0,5-1,5mm

thickness:
1,6-2,0kg/m2 for 1 to 2mm thickness.

Total thickness:
12-14mm

 

CAUTION
The application must take place in well-aired places using protective gloves. Skin or eye contact must be avoided, otherwise wash carefully with soap and water. Flammable before application.

6 people will be needed for the base coat layer (three for mixing-close to 1000 RPM in a plastic drum of approx. 50kg, one for fetching mixed materials, two on the paving machine-one operator driving the hot blade, one helping the material with a trowel spread uniformly to his side-actually, making sure there is material in front of both sides, to avoid uneven laying, sticking or sliding of the caterpillars and also rolling the laid material with the cylinder, patching locally, turning the finisher)
1200-2000 m/day of base coat can be laid in a flat, open surface. POLAPLAST P10 primer over the given surface can be applied in 1-2 hours with two people.
For hand laying with straightedge and flat trowel (like for SUPERELASTOCOAT 842), 4 people-one for mixing-can lay approx. 120 m/day.
After 36-48 hours (and after an intermediate optional primer layer of POLAPLAST P10), 4 people will be needed for the spraying process (one for mixing, one for fetching mixed materials in plastic drums of 30kg or so, two on the spraying machine-one spraying, one dragging/turning the machine), needing 2 hours or so for 1200 m
Two layers are required for e1mm-2mm (second layer after 9-12 hours)

*In all cases, the substrate is considered to be a decent asphalt surface or a smooth, power-troweled concrete surface.

Consider half a day more for the optional polyurethane top mat sealer POLYSPORT MAT 952, for two people.
